ArcelorMittal, whose headquarters are in Luxembourg, is the world's largest steel company having strength of 3,26,000 employees in more than 60 countries.
In 2009, ArcelorMittal had revenues of $65.1 billion and crude steel production of 77 million tonnes, representing approximately 8 per cent of world steel output.
In the steel industry, ArcelorMittal is a leader in all major global markets, including sectors like automotive, construction, household appliances and packaging. The Group leads in R&D and technology, holds sizeable captive supplies of raw materials and operates extensive distribution networks.
Its industrial presence in Europe, Asia, Africa and America gives the Group exposure to all the key steel markets, from emerging to mature. ArcelorMittal is actively involved in key projects in India. It is in the process of establishing a major steel plant in BOKARO which will then push Bokaro city's steel production from the present 4.5 MT to 12 MT....
Luxembourg has global significance in the company’s strategy for several niche products, where ArcelorMittal is the world’s leading manufacturer.
ArcelorMittal’s office in India initially opened to boost Luxembourg steel exports, a mainstay of the country’s economy since the end of 19th Century. It soon specialized in selling steel from India to China and the U.S. however, therefore helping India’s steel industry to export and grow. The company now also started transferring technology to Indian steel producers.
